New Club Record

2037 minutes of flying time, 1617 landings, 5 crashes.
For comparison, here are the numbers from the previous two years: 2007: 1171
minutes, 279 ldgs; 2006: 1646 min, 214 ldgs.
A few times, I exceeded 60 landings in one day, but on Monday, Oct 13, I got
143 ldgs and 96 minutes of flying in one trip to the field; that included 42 ldgs in
one "flight" (one tank of fuel) without ever stopping the prop until I used the
throttle cut at the end of the 22 minute flight. 143 ldgs was my total for the
entire 2002 season!

I no longer count "flights", just minutes and landings. And (oh, yeah..) crashes.
Many of the landings were the "touch and goes" which allow many more
landings in a given amount of flying time than "full stops".
I wrote an article about keeping a flight log for the newsletter last year. I won't
repeat any of that except to say that I have always logged my flying and I
think it's well worth doing for a number of reasons.
My best season for flying time was 1998 when we were able to fly until Dec 20
and I flew 2401 minutes, just over 40 hours; a record I will probably never
equal. I did 391 ldgs that year, which was my best till this year, when I did 394
ldgs in August alone. In '98, I was pleased that I had done 200 ldgs by 4th of
July. In 2008, I had 200 ldgs by "Cinco de Mayo". By 4th of July, 2008 I had over
500 ldgs.

My "lifetime total" landings (1968 thru 2007) were 2454. Today that total is 4071.
But with all that focus on landing counts, I did not neglect my airwork. I still
made progress on aerobatics, finally reaching a comfort level with 4-point rolls
and managed a few spins, one for 7 turns. Hadn't done those for years.
